Gastrointestinal Care

This course focuses on the introduction to surgery such as historical perspectives, terminologies used in surgery, and general pre-operative and post-operative nursing management. Also, neoplasms and a general management of cancers will be discussed. Surgical conditions of the gastrointestinal, endocrine, and integumentary systems are discussed with a focus on the nursing management. The conditions are discussed with reference to definition, types, prevalence, etiology, clinical manifestation, diagnostic investigations, differential diagnosis, and conservative/surgical management as appropriate. The frameworks for nursing management are Levine’s conservation principles and the nursing process.
